Designer Handbag buying by the numbers

A great designer handbag does make you look fashionable, confident and appealing. If you go for the more timeless looks and styles your handbag can not only give you years of enjoyment but if you take care of it can retain a significant amount of its value if you decide to trade it in later on.
However, choosing that first designer handbag can be panic inducing if you haven't done your homework.
Rule number 1- Decide how much you want to spend and stay within that range. Designer goods can be pricey and lets face it a lot of the price is subjective. So if your budget is say $300 - $900 then you are probably going to be frustrated looking at $30,000 Birkins. Your ego, and your bank account would feel much better if you know your price range and stay with it.
Rule number 2-You are the customer and you need to be happy with the purchase. If you find a trendy seasonal bag that looks good and is well within your budget then that's fine as long as you are comfortable with the fact that it may not be something that you would want to use again say next year. If you want more of a long term use from your purchase then stay with more traditional styles that are classic and that you like rather than what is trendy today.
Rule number 3- If you've determined your price and the type of bag that you ar looking for then you can look at the designers. Coach bags are good and are more moderate in style and pricing. Dolce & Gabbana are a little pricier and edgier but retain their value well. Hermes (particularly anything Birkin) can be well up there in prices and if you can get past the sticker shock also retain their value over time.
If you want something in between pure trendy and classic perhaps take a look at L.A.M.B the Gwen Stefani brand for classic made fashionable at a moderate price.
Well, we're just barely touching on designers and styles here - go out do some hands on shopping and have fun!
